The Society
The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS) - was formed in 1959 - it's aim being to arouse and maintain interest in the vast fleet of paddle steamers still in existence around the coasts of the UK at that time, whilst also giving like minded enthusiasts of any age the opportunity to meet and socialise. In addition to a vast archive of material the society owns two steamers - former River Dart steamer ps Kingswear Castle and the World Famous Clyde Steamer ps Waverley which was historically sold to the society by Caledonian MacBrayne for £1 in 1974(You can't even buy a litre of fuel for that these days!!) and one classic motor ship mv Balmoral who operates in support of Waverley. All three ships operate from May through to late September / Oct and further information is available by going to their respective websites in the Links section. The society is composed of five branches: Scottish, London & Home Counties, Bristol Channel, Wessex & North England - all of which help raise money to keep our ships sailing
